Environment education has been made compulsory in all schools across country by the Supreme Court of India.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has launched a 'Green School Programme' (GSP). GSP aims to encourage educational institutions to improve their environmental performance.

GSP is a self-assessment programme. It helps schools audit their use of resources and map their consumption and wastage. The exercise involve collection of information under water, air, land, energy, and waste.
